Have you ever felt like you were standing in your own way?
You have dreams, ideas, and a sense that God is calling you to something bigger—but instead of moving forward, you hesitate. You second-guess yourself. You wonder if you’re really capable, qualified, or even “called” to pursue what’s on your heart.
This kind of self-doubt is something I see all the time in faithful creatives and Christian creators who long to share their gifts. Whether it’s writing, speaking, starting a business, or launching a ministry, the biggest obstacle isn’t usually lack of talent or opportunity—it’s the belief that they’re not ready, not good enough, or not the “right” person for the job.
But here’s the truth: You don’t have to feel ready to take the next step.
The Myth of Readiness
One of the biggest mindset shifts you need to make if you want to grow is this:
🚫 Growth doesn’t happen before action—it happens through action.
Too many people wait to feel ready before they begin. They think they need:
More experience
More training
More confidence
A clearer path forward
But the truth is, you gain confidence by showing up and doing the work—not by waiting until you feel 100% certain.
That’s pretty much what I’m doing here at Grace & Growth. I’m figuring out how to do this as I am doing it. Think about how God has worked through people throughout history:
Moses didn’t feel ready to lead. (In fact, he actively tried to get out of it!)
David didn’t look like the obvious choice to be king.
The apostles didn’t feel equipped to build the early Church.
Yet, in every case, God gave them grace as they stepped forward in faith. The same is true for you.
The Shift: Embracing Imperfect Action
If you want to actually grow as a creative, entrepreneur, or leader, you need to shift from:
🚫 “I need to be fully prepared before I start” to
✅ “I will start, and trust that God will equip me along the way.”
Here’s how you can start embracing imperfect action today:
✨ 1. Reframe failure as learning.
Instead of seeing mistakes as proof that you’re not good enough, recognize them as part of the growth process. Every successful person you admire started messy—the key is that they didn’t quit.
✨ 2. Set small, achievable goals.
Instead of waiting for a “perfect” launch, take one step. Write the post. Record the first video. Share your idea. Send an email. Make a call. Small, consistent actions build momentum.
✨ 3. Surround yourself with people who encourage growth.
We aren’t meant to grow alone. The more you connect with like-minded creators and mentors, the more you’ll build confidence in what God is calling you to do. (This is why I created Grace & Growth—so you don’t have to figure it all out on your own!)
